Wuhan University (WHU), established in 1893, is a prestigious comprehensive national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of China. By 1946, the university had developed into a comprehensive institution with six major faculties: Liberal Arts, Law, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, and Medicine. In 2000, Wuhan University merged with Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping, and Hubei Medical University to form the new Wuhan University.
