Dalian University of Technology (DUT), abbreviated as "DUT", is located in Dalian, Liaoning Province, China. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. The university is a co-construction university by the Ministry of Education, Liaoning Province, and Dalian City. It is a national "Double First-Class" construction university and a national "985 Project" and "211 Project" construction university. The predecessor of the university was the Engineering College of Dalian University, which was established in April 1949. In July 1950, the Dalian University system was abolished, and the Engineering College of Dalian University became independent as Dalian Institute of Technology. In March 1988, it was renamed Dalian University of Technology. The university has three campuses: Lingshui, Development Zone, and Panjin, with a total area of 357.13 hectares and a building area of approximately 1.88 million square meters. The university has a graduate school, with 20 independent colleges on the main campus, 3 independent colleges on the Development Zone campus, and 3 colleges on the Panjin campus, plus 3 specialized colleges and 1 independent college. The university currently has 4,473 faculty and staff, including 2,945 full-time teachers. The total number of students is 49,287, including 25,692 undergraduates and 23,595 graduate students.
