East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST), commonly known as "Huali" (华理), is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of China. It is a comprehensive university with distinctive engineering characteristics, covering 11 disciplines including science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, management, literature, law, arts, philosophy, and education. The university is listed in the national "Double First-Class" initiative, "Project 211", and "985 Innovation Platform for Advantageous Disciplines". Founded in 1952, ECUST is the first higher education institution in New China known for its chemical engineering characteristics. The university has three campuses: Xuhui, Fengxian, and Jinshan, covering a total area of 2,535 acres with a total building area of 970,000 square meters. The university has 17 professional schools, 74 undergraduate programs, 30 first-level master's degree programs, 16 master's professional degree programs, 13 first-level doctoral degree programs, 2 doctoral professional degree programs, and 14 postdoctoral research stations. Currently, the university has over 26,000 full-time students, including 16,789 undergraduates, 8,647 master's students, and 1,956 doctoral students. The university has a strong faculty with 3,098 staff members, including 8 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 10 dual-appointed academicians, 1 academician of the European Academy of Sciences, and over 120 national-level talents including recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. Fengxian Campus is the new campus of ECUST, put into use in 2007, covering an area of approximately 1,700 acres. The campus features modern design, beautiful environment, and complete facilities. The campus mainly undertakes undergraduate teaching tasks and is an important base for the university's undergraduate education.
