Bachelor of Tamil Language and Linguistics | UM-SATU (University Malaya) is a 3.5-year, full-time, on-campus bachelor's programme delivered in English at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur — designed to develop graduates with expertise in modern Tamil language, linguistics, translation, Tamil society and culture, and applied language skills for careers in education, media, publishing and cross-cultural communication.
The curriculum spans introduction to linguistics, Tamil language competency, phonology and morphology of modern Tamil, syntax, sociolinguistics, Tamil for information communication technology and digital media, text analysis, lexical semantics, translation theories and practices, Tamil dialects, language and Tamil civilization, semantics and pragmatics, final year project and industrial training — supported by research methodology and student holistic empowerment courses.
Graduates are equipped for careers as Tamil Language Teacher, Translator, Interpreter, Editor, Journalist, Media Analyst, Communication Officer, Cultural Advisor, Academic Researcher, Curriculum Developer, Language Consultant, Lexicographer, Corporate Trainer and International Relations Officer — or to pursue postgraduate study at University Malaya.
