Bachelor of Japanese Language and Linguistics | UM-SATU (University Malaya) is a 3.5-year, full-time, on-campus bachelor's programme delivered in English at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur — designed to develop graduates with expertise in Japanese language, linguistics, translation, Japanese society and culture, and applied language skills for careers in education, media, tourism, business and cross-cultural communication.
The curriculum spans introduction to linguistics, Japanese language skills levels I–VI, reading and writing skills, phonetics and phonology, morphosyntax, didactics of Japanese language skills, sociolinguistics, Japanese for communication and tourism, Japanese for business and administration, analyzing texts in Japanese, two-way translation, semantics and pragmatics, language acquisition, final year project and faculty electives — supported by research methodology and student holistic empowerment courses.
Graduates are equipped for careers as Japanese Language Teacher, Translator, Interpreter, Editor, Journalist, Media Analyst, Communication Officer, Cultural Advisor, Academic Researcher, Curriculum Developer, Language Consultant, Lexicographer, Corporate Trainer and International Relations Officer — or to pursue postgraduate study at University Malaya.
