Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology | UM-SATU (University Malaya) is a 4-year, full-time, on-campus bachelor's programme delivered in English at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur — designed to develop graduates with expertise in molecular biology, genetic engineering, bioinformatics and bioprocess technology for careers in research, industry and applied biotechnology.

The curriculum spans cell biology, biochemistry, applied microbiology, plant and animal biotechnology, bioprocess design, genetic engineering, bioinformatics, biological data analytics, research project in biotechnology, program electives in fermentation, aquaculture, food biotechnology and environmental biotechnology — supported by industrial training and a special-semester placement.

Graduates are equipped for careers as Biotechnologist, Research Scientist, Bioprocess Engineer, Molecular Biologist, Pharmaceutical Scientist, Food Technologist, Bioinformatics Specialist, Environmental Biotechnologist, Quality Control Analyst and Biomanufacturing Specialist — or to pursue postgraduate study at University Malaya.

Entry Requirements

STPM (Science Stream)
Obtain a minimum CGPA of 3.00. Obtain at least a Grade B- in the following subjects at STPM level: Biology. Obtain at least a Grade B- in any ONE (1) of the following subjects at STPM level: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics T / Mathematics M.
Matriculation / Foundation (Science Stream)
Obtain a minimum CGPA of 3.00. Obtain at least a Grade B- in the following subjects at Matriculation / Foundation level: Biology. Obtain at least a Grade B- in any ONE (1) of the following subjects at Matriculation / Foundation level: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics.
GCE A-Level
Obtain a recognized GCE A-Level qualification. Obtain at least a Grade B in the following subjects at GCE A-level: Biology. Obtain at least a Grade B in any ONE (1) of the following subjects at GCE A-level: Physics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Mathematics.
